When Do I Need a New Engine Dropped in My Automobile?

We get it here at JA Motors. For many people, their automobiles have special meaning to them so they will never get rid of them. If this is the case with you, there will come a time when you will need to have a new engine dropped into the automobile. Engines are machines, and no machine has an unlimited lifespan. If you drive a gasoline-powered engine, you can probably get anywhere from 200,000 to 300,000 miles out of it. Diesel engines tend to last a little bit longer. Here are signs that your engine is going bad for good and needs to be replaced.

Constant Overheating

Constant overheating can be a sign that the cooling system needs to be overhauled, that you have a cracked head gasket, that you have a cracked exhaust manifold, that you have a faulty catalytic converter, or that you have a cracked engine block. All of these things require serious repairs to be fixed. In the case of the engine block, you will have to replace the engine.

Excessive Engine Exhaust

Another sign that your engine needs to be replaced is if your tailpipe is releasing excessive exhaust. If you pay attention to the color of the exhaust, you will know what is causing it. In other words, if you have excess black exhaust coming out of the tailpipe, your engine has a serious fuel leak. Excess blue exhaust means the engine has a serious oil leak. White exhaust signals a serious coolant leak.

Knocking All the Time

If your engine is knocking all the time, it’s possible that the rod bearings are worn and the sound you hear is a damaged cylinder block. This can be repaired by itself, but it is an extensive repair. In other words, instead of replacing the engine if the cylinder block is the only problem, we will rebuild this portion of the engine to restore your vehicle’s performance without knocking sounds.

Metal in the Motor Oil

Unfortunately, if there are metal shavings floating in the motor oil, your engine is a total goner. What is causing the metal shavings is disintegrating auto parts. As the oil flows through the engine, it picks up the disintegrating metal off of each part. This is something that cannot be fixed. Your engine is literally disintegrating and it needs to be replaced.

Call JA Motors in Peachtree City, GA, today if your car, truck, or utility vehicle’s engine is experiencing any of the problems listed above.
