Your Car Should Never Release a Ton of Thick Exhaust

If your car, truck, or utility vehicle is releasing a ton of thick exhaust out of the tailpipe, JA Motors advises that there is a serious problem with the engine. In fact, you shouldn’t drive your automobile when it is releasing a ton of exhaust. Doing so can damage the engine beyond repair, if it isn’t damaged beyond repair already. Let’s talk more about this below.

Black

For example, if you see a ton of black exhaust flowing out of the tailpipe, your engine is hemorrhaging fuel. Driving your automobile is dangerous because you could start a fuel fire. In severe cases, it has been reported that people have seen sparks and flames coming out of their tailpipe as well as the black exhaust. As you can imagine, this is quite frightening. Have your vehicle towed to our shop if there is a significant amount of black exhaust exiting the tailpipe while you drive it.

Blue/Gray

The same is true with blue or gray exhaust. In this case, the engine is not hemorrhaging fuel but it is hemorrhaging motor oil. Motor oil can burn, but the main concern is that the oil leak is so bad that you are driving without motor oil circulating through the engine. To be honest, if this is the case, your engine will seize up and die in less than 30 minutes. If you force your engine to operate with a ton of blue exhaust flowing out of the tailpipe, you may damage the engine beyond repair.

White

Excessive amounts of white exhaust are generally accompanied by an overheating engine. The reason why is that white exhaust is caused by burning engine coolant. Usually, the underlying problem is a cracked head gasket that is releasing coolant into the engine to be burned away by the engine’s heat. You will not only see white exhaust flowing out of the tailpipe but might also see white smoke coming out from underneath the hood. Don’t drive your automobile in this condition.

Clear

Finally, what you should see is clear exhaust. You will see white puffs of smoke coming out of the tailpipe if the weather is cold outside. Other than that, you shouldn’t see your vehicle’s exhaust, even if you drive a diesel engine. The exhaust should be clear and, for the most part, odorless. If you smell gasoline or rotten eggs in the exhaust, you have an exhaust system problem.
